Social Studies Extra Credit

Mrs. Stomberg has had several requests for extra credit in Social Studies. So, she came up with something students can do at their leisure! J Mrs. Stomberg shared this extra credit this week with all of her rotations. She has a folder located in her classroom. Inside are 11 different sheets. Each sheet may be completed 1 time by each student. Each sheet has a picture and 5 questions (related to Social Studies). Each question is worth 2 points, for a total of 10 extra credit points possible for each sheet. (A total of 110 extra credit points altogether.) I will apply the extra credit wherever it is needed (either test/project or daily review/quiz sections). Students may get a sheet whenever needed/wanted, complete the sheet, and turn it in to Mrs. Stomberg’s black tray. She will grade it and return it with the amount of extra credit earned at the top of the sheet.

Picture Retakes

Picture retakes are the morning of October 10^th. If your child was absent or enrolled in our school after the first picture date, please plan to have your child have his/her picture taken. Even if you don’t plan to purchase any pictures, please have your child ready for pictures that day because these pictures will go in the school’s yearbook. If you weren’t pleased with your child’s first round of pictures, and would like for your child to take retake pictures on October 10^th, you must SEND IN A NOTE REQUESTING that your child have his/her picture taken. Otherwise s/he will not have his/her picture retaken.

The Pampered Chef fundraiser has begun and we are very excited!   Your student has been given a packet of information that shares all of the details.  Please make sure that you have gotten it from them.  Not only are there very cool prizes being planned for you AND your student, but there are also very nice products for you and your family to shop for!  The Pampered Chef stoneware is on sale this month for us (this sale only happens ONCE a year!) and it's a great time to begin Christmas shopping!  Feel free to promote on line ordering for those out of town at www.pamperedchef.biz/leighreed, as well.  Don't forget, when your student gathers just $50 in orders (before tax and shipping) they will get to attend a DANCE at school during recess on Friday, Oct. 21.  AND, when they gather just $100 in products, they will also get their name entered in a chance to win a free I-PAD!  Fundraiser packets and payments are due on the Monday following fall break, Oct. 17th.  You can contact the Pampered Chef consultant at any time if you have questions. Social Studies - Label Southeast Region Quiz on Tuesday, Oct.25th

Students will label a blank map of the U.S. states according to it's regional location. State names MUST be spelled correctly. 5 points for labeling the state on the map correctly and 1 point for spelling the state correctly. 
*Starting next week, students will have a the U.S. states as spelling words!

FALL FESTIVAL

 

The Western Festival is Friday, October 21^st. Each 4th grade class will be putting together a different themed basket for the carnival auction. Mrs. Christopher's class is doing a CAMPING basket. Mrs. Gaebler's class is putting together a PET basket. Mrs. McCoy's class is collecting items for a FAMILY FUN NIGHT basket. Mrs. Parker's basket theme is TAILGATING. Mrs. Stomberg's class is putting together GAME NIGHT basket. Please send in items to fill your class basket! If you’d prefer to send in money, we will purchase items for the basket. Please send in items by Thursday, October20th. If you plan to send money instead of an item, please send money in by Wednesday, October 12TH.

Parent Conferences

If you have not sent in your request for a conference, please do so ASAP! The fourth grade teachers can meet after school on Mondays from 3:00-3:45 as well as during our planning on Friday mornings from 9:10-9:30. We will also hold 2 Parent Teacher Conference Nights, Thursday, October 6^th and Thursday, October 27, for those of you who are not able to meet during these times.

Grandparent's Day is coming...

The 4^th grade will celebrate Grandparent’s Day on Wednesday, September 7^th.  In celebration of Grandparent’s Day, we are creating a grandparent museum in our classroom.  Students are asked to bring in three to five items that represent their grandparent(s).  For example, it could be an item such as a stuffed animal or figurine given to your child by his or her grandparent.  It could be an item that belonged to your child’s grandparent.  Some items that have been brought in from previous years are baby shoes, a letter jacket from high school, quilts, etc. Even a picture of these special family members will do.  We are asking that all items be brought in by Wednesday, September 7^th (earlier would be even better). On that day we will set up our museum so that our guests may enjoy a look into the past.  Please see the schedule below for that day so you can remind any grandparents who plan to attend.
